The Absorbed Tradition is the 12th issue of Creem magazine, for which Erik Madigan Heck curated, photographed, and wrote in its entirety. The takeover publication is divided into two parts. The first section, Conversations on Photography, takes the shape of seven long form interviews with an assortment of photographers, curators, and writers such as Taryn Simon, Susan Bright, Vince Aletti, and Kathy Ryan.

The second section titled Works, contains four new series made for the issue: Fashion Advertisements, Comme des Garcons, The High Priestess, and Haider Ackermann. The publication accompanied an exhibition of the works at Bosi Contemporary from June 6 - 14th, in the Lower East Side.
